iainkirk Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 OK, just had my first set of replacement brake pads all round at 65000 miles. Is this a record? Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 Im on 26,000 and still more than 3/4 of the meat left. Its because I brake in good time, and give the brakes some 'off time' during braking while changing down the gears. Less heat = less wear = saved cash Quote

Less heat = less wear = saved cash Me too, I'm near 30k with good pad life left and little apparent wear on the discs. I'm in the process of preparing for an advanced driving test and seemingly the latest thinking is that 'brakes are for stopping and gears are for going' i.e. you should'nt go down through the gears to assist deceleration as 1. your left hand is leaving the sterring wheel unnecessarily during braking to change gears and 2. it's better to use brakes only while braking and avoid unnecessary wear and tear on your gearbox. Well I'm having a tough time adjusting after 20+ years doing it, (esp. earlier years on bikes when habit was formed), but I have to say it I'm adapting :( ATB'J. Quote
Guest blatters Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 42,000 miles from new and still on the original pads all round. The light did come on a few days ago for the first time but has since gone out and stayed that way. I had just been down some very, very muddy and wet farm tracks (Cademuir, Peebleshire - if anyone knows this neck of the woods). After consulting this site I reasoned that the mud and grime may have helped provide a false signal from the pads electrical contacts. 65,000 miles is encouraging. I also drive for economy, transfixed to the on-board computer's mpg figure. So watch out IainKirk, I'm after your record - I'll need another 12mths though to clock up the mileage so your record is safe for the moment. Regards Blatters Quote
apj64 Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 124K and recon we have original pads on the rear LOL. Not really alaughing mater as they was down to nothing and the dealer (not Fraud) was of supposed to have PDIed the bloody thing.
