Guest God Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Hello everyone, I've recently invested in a Ford Galaxy 2.8 Ghia, when I got the car it had a 2006 head unit fitted which was clearly the wrong one as it didn't have any control over the CD changer, (the head unit didn't seem to work anyway) so I fitted my old 2008 head unit to it but it only has a faint sound on max volume, and when i connect the small lead in the back it goes off completly and reads 'Phone' on the display. there is no evidence at all of any mobile phone device being fitted in the car. I phoned the friendly chaps at Fords and they said they didn't know but i should try disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting it, that hasn't worked, even after being disconnect all night. Any ideas? ---your friendly divine-being--- Quote
johnb80 Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 The PHONE message means that the mute input has been operated. When you say it's very quiet, how quiet i.e. loud enough to hear whilst stationary or can only be heard with your ear up to the speaker. Does your gal have a seperate amp by any chance? Regards - John Quote
Guest God Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Hi thanks for the reply. It's very quiet! it needs to be at max volume to be heard even faintly while stationary. Yes it does have a seperate amp, I even tried an old amp from a mondeao but still the same problem. How do I turn off the mute? Thanks. Quote
johnb80 Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 To turn off the mute you disconnect the wire from the mute input (it's usually grounded to make it go into phone mute mode. It's been discussed on here before, do a search and you should find the pinout info. Regards - John Quote

Guest j_mchattie Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 I havent seen this unit, but is there a 'remote' lead running from the unit to the Amp? Is it connected? Is the amp earthed properly? Is the 'gain' turned up on the amp? Is the sound being directed to disconnected speakers? (ie. rear if the car doesnt have rear speakers) Quote
