I've just changed the oil on my galaxy and couldn't believe it when the sump plug kept on going round. i have done about 4 oil changes on it myself and remember the first one i did, i coud barely get the plug out it was so tight , i also had to clean a bit of swarf off which i think came from the pan. Anway it has lasted 4 changes and now the thing is busted and ford want

If you can find a good engineering shop, they can sometimes put in a solid thread insert (NOT a helicoil), however, these can only be fitted if there is enough solid metal to cut the bigger thread for the insert. I doubt that this is possible with a sump.

 

I bet the bit of swarf was the stripped thread! :o

 

The only thing I can think of is to try a parts specialist or hunt around the breakers yards.

 

If yours is a VW based engine (Ghia X 110 - is that a 110 BHP TDi?), try Garrett Wright in Slough. In my experience with VW/Audi, the only decent sump gasket to fit is an original part - usually solid moulded rubber - the OEM gaskets are IMHO a load of rubbish, often two or more pieces and bits of cork, etc.

I WANT TO DO AN OIL CHANGE SOON ON HER BUT

WANT'S TO KNOW

 

DO I NEED TO PUT HER ON RAMP'S OR CAN

I GET THE COVER OFF & THE THE CHANGE WITH HER ON THE GROUND

RATHER ON RAMPS?

I HAVE DONE OIL CHANGES IN THE PAST BUT NOT ON GALS OR SIMILAR

JUST ON STD CARS IF YOU GET WHAT I MEAN

I have done an oil change without ramps but it was a lot of bu*geration trying to get the cover on & off - you have to sort of hold it up with your knees while trying to get the bolts in - Anyway i went straight out afterwards and got me some ramps for
