Ignition Off Brake Lights?

Hi all, I've just changed my brake light switch and the new one seems fine, but one thing I noticed is that the brake lights work even with the ignition off, is this normal?

I don't know if they all do that, but our MK1 2.3 GLX works with the ignition off....
