Steven.Langdale Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 All Theres been a lot of talk recently about topping-up / replacing the auto tansmission fluid, and a procedure of how to do it. The question I have is what do you need to do to get the fluid to the correct temp? I've got no means of checking it via FDS/VagCom, so what do I need to do? Would going through the gears a couple of times get to temp or a whip around the block etc.. Thoughs?? Thanks Steven Quote
dipsomaniac Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 A lot is made of getting the transmission fluid to a specific temperature before checking. Looking at it logically the level must be correct when the fluid is at its most consistant temperature - normal driving temperature. I would check the level after a normal drive. I assume that autobox technicians only check the temperature because the car would normally be cold before the level was being checked and the fluid would have to be brought up to the correct temperature/consistancy. I stand to be corrected. Quote
Justice Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 I have just set up my Vag-Com today and when left on tickover for 20 mins the Gearbox temp was 84, when I get more time next week I will start the car up from cold with Vagcom plugged in and see how long before it gets to the right temp to give you an idea on how long to have the engine running, I have the full registered version so wil be able to post up a graph as well.Should help you out  . Steven.Langdale Posted October 22, 2005 Author Report Posted October 22, 2005 That would be great  Sounds like idling for a few mins will get up to temp then. I'll await your figures. Thanks Steven Quote
