Windscreen Wipers

I'm new here but hope you can help. We've recently purchased an R reg galaxy. All is great apart from the wipers. Sometimes they are fine, but sometimes they collide, with the result that the drivers wiper stops working.

 

What happens is the arm assembly comes apart - the arm driving the drivers wiper "pops" off the bottom of the assembly. Its very easy to repair - it just pops back on.

 

But why does it keep coming off? Is there a part missing? Spring clip etc? Hope someone can help me :)

I have re-linked the photo of the low-cost repair that has been done to mine as it had gone missing. This had been done before I bought the car and it is still working fine over a year later.
