When I got my car I only had 1 ignition key with it.

So today I went to a locksmiths to get one cut, he said that he can't do it because of the type of transponder chip in the key? he could cut the blade only.

Is this going to be a ford only job? I have read somewhere about needing a red key or needing 2 keys to program another? anyone shed some light please.

Thanks,

Mike.

a lot more people seem to have the cloning transponder equipment now,but expect to pay at least 25 pound for 1 key!

lol, I wish they weren't! Everything now seems to cost an arm and a leg! If SEAT would tell me my 4 digit key security code I would buy a cheap non-transponder key and drill a hole in the top and epoxy in one of my spare chips and program that up!

But the B@stards won't tell me, even though originaly the number came with the car on a card.

tried a couple of places to get a key made, they all said they couldn't do this type of key for a 99 model. they put it in the cloning machine but it couldn't read from it, they said its a phillips chip and is only available from a dealer.

We've an independant mobile guy does it in Corwall, cuts & programms on site - he did my '99 GaiaX, so they are about.
