my wifes astra wouldn't start the other day,so we called out the rac.he sorted her car outand got it started(injector was stuck open).and I then offered him a cup of tea and got chatting.He said if ever any of your dash warning lights come on i.e abs,air bag etc,there is a way to reset them with out vag com or a trip to frauds.the procedure is as follows;

1: DISCONNECT THE BATTERY EARTH LEAD(only the earth not the positive!)

2: RUN A WIRE FROM THE POSITIVE TERMINAL OF THE BATTERY(which is still connected) TO AN EARTH POINT OF THE CHASIS AND HOLD FOR 30 SECONDS.

3: DISCONNECT THIS WIRE

4: RECONNECT BATTERY EARTH LEAD AND RE START THE ENGINE,YOUR WARNING LIGHTS SHOULD NOW BE OFF.

whilst I havent actually tested this method myself,he says it works for 90% of cars,not only the galaxy.

hope this ifo is of use to someone.

...isn't this just rebooting the ECU? It's just the same as disconnecting the battery and leaving it a few minutes.

If the ABS actually has a fault the light will just come back on! :lol:

my air bag light is on at the moment, when i get five i will try it but its the first i have heard of this fix and as previosly said if it has a problem then it will come back on, however if you fix said problem and have no way off turning light of this could be the answer,

If you take a cable from the +ve terminal to an earthing point on the chassis, does this not make all the -ve terminals on all the various connectors +ve?

yes,but that's why you disconnect the earth lead from the battery first!,then dissconect your patch cable afterwards(before you re-wire the negative battery terminal
