Guest neil_wiles Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 Hi gents Need some suggestions.... Alternator belt on a 1999 TDi keeps destroying itself and flying off in less than 1,000 miles. Apart from alignment which I have checked anyone got any ideas as to what the cause might be ? It has Air con and the large diameter pulley (so the longer of the two belts listed) and the belt gives no indication of failure before it disintegrates. Help needed as I have exhausted all my original ideas and new ones are pretty thin. Quote
Justice Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 Could be one of a few things, oil contamination, a pully is slightly siezed ,water pump on it way out.If it is off now I would check all the places it runs around to make sure all runs free. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 Idler/tensioner pulley faulty? Although my money is on the water-pump being goosed. Quote
