Guest topcarp2 Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 not had me 1st gal very long and i luvvit..its a bit on the slow and underpowered side and im beginnin to wish i'd gone for the 2.8..is there much difference in power/grunt between the 2.3 and the 2.8?..because of what im gonna be using the gal for i would love to get my hands on the 4x4 version..are these models available in ghia or ghia x and is the 4wd system on them any good?..i'm led to believe the system is the same as the one that powered my 4x4 granada scorpio and that was ok if you could afford a transfer box rebuild every year.also what year did they start to make the 4x4 version and what year did they stop(if they have?)does anyone own a 4x4 galaxy or know if they are troublesome...any info would be really appreciated so as i know what to look for if i eventually find one...cheers Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 Mates dad had a 2.8 4x4 with all the extras, the only reason he swapped it was because he couldnt afford to run it! and because of the length of time he keeps cars for it wasnt economical to convert it to LPG :D the 4x4 system is quite clever :( it primarily runs on FWD and only cuts to 4WD when it senses a difference in speed between the front wheels and the rear, (wheel spin!) the diff then locks up and gives you 4WD it's all done with clutch plates and silicone fluid that thickens up when it get warm due to the difference of speed and friction from the clutch plates :D if your worried about MPG go for the Sharan 1.9 TDI 4MOTION 4x4 Galaxy first released in 97 only in auto's Ghia, Ghia X, 98 Ghia X, 99 Ghia then no more :D although VW still do the 4MOTION in both TDI and VR6 :( Quote
Guest topcarp2 Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 thanx for info..i ent worried bout runnin costs( my now destroyed rally car did 9mpg)so it dont bother me much..had no idea vw did one especially in diesel..do you know if the 2.8 has much more get up and go than the 2.3....if it ent loads better then i may as well try find a diesel 4motion or the vr6 Quote
