There should be only 1 stat listed for the VR6 engine 80c I think but there is a 70c avalable as an after maket to help make the engine run a bit cooler depending on how hard you drive your car,I have just fitted a normal one in mine becouse when I brought the car the thormostat was jammed shut.

One bit of advice is when buying the stat make sure you get the rubber seal that goes on the engine block which is not part of the stat kit (stat and stat rubberseal).

Total cost for thermostat and both seals should cost you about

First thing Steve turn down the volume :( the standard stat is an 80C one the 86C he is mentioning if most likely for the other inferior engines that found their way into the Galaxy :( they open at 86/87C

there is an aftermarket 70C stat availble, this is used with a lower temp fan switch on performance or hard driven engines to keep them running cooler and prolong their life! try your local gsfcarparts they will have all you need

Polly want a cracker.

No thanks Ian already had breakfast :(

and for your info when I started to reply to this topic there were no replys, I took my time and looked up all the facts before I posted mine, that meant trawling through several web sites and spares listings for the VR6 engine and looking at info on stat opening temps for several models, these sites list them in F so I then had to work out the C temp this takes time! so hence I wasnt as quick as you to post a reply

I'm so sorry if I rained on your parade and in future will contact you and ask for your permission before I post!

:( :) There are not enough emoticons on this board to express my feelings.....

At the risk of being accussed of a rant (again),,,,,

In my experience, (did someone say something? :(), the opening temp is usually stamped on the stat (in very small letters). I've have bad experience with non-genuine thermostats (Halfords). I also find original VW thermostats are cheaper than Halfords! In short, buy the real thing from VW....

Also I hope you remember exactly how the old stat/seals were fitted. Can give wierd symptoms if you put it back together wrong. (but that assumes it hasn't already been changed and put in wrong by someone else!)

NAAH ONLY KIDDING :(

When you remove the stat housing you will see how it goes in, the main part of the stat (spring/valve) points upwards and into the other part of the stat housing, go easy when you tighten the bolts up as the housing has been known to crack! as it weakens with age!
