Hello, this is my first post on this excellent forum.

I bought my 2002 1.9 TDI Zetec in June and on the whole have been really pleased with it. However, I recently had a problem where I had been cruising along the motorway quite happily, I then started going up a steep hill and the power just disappeared. I ended up having to change down to 2nd and going about 25-30mph. I was even overtaken by a car towing a caravan!

As soon as I got onto the flat, there seemed to be no problem at all and was back up to cruising in 6th gear.

MAF sensor do you think?

Certainly sounds like the symptoms. The best way to check is to swap it with a known working one. This should be covered by the warranty if the services are up date and on time.

.. or unplug it whereupon the engine management system should adopt a "default" series of settings which may not be perfect, but the car should then behave almost normally. If it does, then change the MAF sensor.

A word of warning - I have had my MAF sensor and three fuel injectors replaced in order to "cure" the self same problem, but so far no joy. As we speak (write?) Ford are busy testing to try and locate the cause.
