With the impending arrival of a company car on the 1st December I need to sell the Galaxy.

She's a 53 plate tdi130Ghia with 78,000 on the clock. Body and interior in great nick with just the wheels showing the signs of the miles.

Any idea what I should be asking as a minimum startin price.

You are asking about a two year old car with the average mileage of an 8 year old car.

It will depend on your local area etc.

But I would start asking for offers around 10K if it has FSH.

Thats about what I'd be happy with to be honest.

As for 8year old cars with 78,000 miles on the clock.. Do you leave your car in the garage 8 months a year...? Average miles are now up to 15,000 a year and NOT the 10-12000 that they were 20 years ago.

Average miles are now up to 15,000 a year and NOT the 10-12000 that they were 20 years ago.

I was told that the milage should be looked at as a sort of sliding scale

First couple of years 15000 per year

then 12000 for the next 3 or 4

then about 6000-8000 per year after that.

The theory explained to me was that in the first couple of years the higher milage is done by someone who buys a new car every couple of years.

The second owner would like to buy a new car every couple of years but cant afford it so buys a fiarly new one and changes it after 3 or 4 years

By the time the car is 6 or more years old it is often the second car used for shopping and the school run so a lower mileage.

It could be total rubbish but there seems to be a certain amount of logic to it

I also have to say that the 270Cdi motor in te merc is Soooooooo smooth compared to the Tdi....... I LOVE the space and ride of the Gal, but HATE the unreliability, noise and poor build quality....

I have NEVER owned a MErc, had a BMW M3 about 10 years ago, but always had Fords, Peugeots or the odd Citroen (and yes most Citroens are Odd lol)

BUT the Gal has 100% put me off from EVER buying a Ford again...

Such a shame, but I reckon I could keep my new car (pick her up next Fri) for 10 years and not have the probs I have had with the Gal....

So.. http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/343/newcar2gc.jpg

Here we go.. in leather heated comfort....

Hope you have more luck with the ML270 than the people who filled in the last JD Power survey. It was bottom of the pile.

Then again, the "C" Class was not much further up the list either.

Hope the re-vamp of both cars has been for the better or we could be starting www.mercedes-benz-trouble.org.uk

One of my mates is in middle management at B&Q, his merc is now on it's 3rd Autobox and the Climate Control is worse than the Gal for reliability. I must admit I was shocked when he told me, I always thought Merc's were a car to have for ever, they sem to have lost it in the last few years, seems to coincide when they duped all of their dealers.

Don't really mean to rain on your parade, I hope yours is a good un.

yes, not to burst your bubble or ought, but i have also heard, that mercs latest reliability has gone done the swany. but i hope (it should be) a very nice, and reliable car <4X4>.

enjoy it, and when your cruising about in your heated leather seats, just think of all us lot, continuing forth, with all our MAF problems, Split vacuum houses, and no air-conditioning in the summer. :D
