purplemadboy Posted October 3, 2005 Report Posted October 3, 2005 Why didnt Ford make the tailgate window open independently from the tailgate or a least make it an option?Traded in fantastic Freelander which had a dropping window and the Espace which I nearly bought (renault dealer messed me about) had an openong window as an option. So every time I need into the back of the car I need to reverse it out of my garage by about 4 feet to open the tailgate.Apart from that I luve my shiny new car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bigjeeze Posted October 3, 2005 Report Posted October 3, 2005 Cos Ford neither designed nor built the Galaxy! It's VW's fault. :D Quote

Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Personally I have never seen the point of opening tailgate glass - what I would like is where the metal lower part opens and the glazed top bit stays put - like Renault have recently done with the so-called "boot chute" on the Modus. I first suggested that Austin-Rover did this to the Ambassador when that evolved from the "wedgie" Princess, but I never got an answer to my letter, despite providing a sketch or two  Quote
golfmadman Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Purplemadboy, i know its off subject but what are your thoughts about the freelander. I keep hearing mixed reviews and mainly end up being told they are horrible to drive and have expensive problems with them. I will be changing our second car next year for some small 4x4 type and am looking at RAV4, Xtrail (prob too new), CRV and freelander. ? Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 My Father has one. Its rubbish for MPG, but a comfortable car. The NCAP rating is pretty low.He has the 1.8 petrol, which is enough grunt for its size (despite it weighing almost 2 tonnes). The seats arent 'huggy', but give you a good posture. The Headgasket blew after 38k, which is a very common problem on them. Eventually Landrover agreed to pay 75% of the cost ( Quote
purplemadboy Posted October 6, 2005 Author Report Posted October 6, 2005 Hi GolfmadmanMy Freelander was TD4ES all whistles and bells,it was a great car only in the dealers twice for stupid wee things(still under warranty)40000 miles on it after nearly 4 years as i said not a problem. Before we had the TD4 we had the 1.8 also from new and this was the worst car I have ever had (it new its own way to the dealer)yes as the other guy said its under powerd that not good on fuel ,we got the 1.8 in 1998 and the TD4 in 2001 ,the build quailty has very much improved.Did you know that there is a completly new Freelander comeing out next year ,I was going to wait for that but my car was getting worth less and less so I jumped on the Galaxy band wagon.I hate to say it but once you have had a shot of a Landrover and see what it can do you wouldnt touch the Jap machinces with a barge pole,CRV not a 4x4 but a big estate car,x trail cheat and nasty inside,RAV 4 well what can I say but a womans car.The new Freelander is bigger in every way compared to the one thats out just know.WISH I WAS PLAY GOLF ALSO Quote
GSMGuy Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 On the subject of 4x4 types, I have to admit I was out in a merc ML270 CDi tiptronic Auto today... Loved it so much that have done the deal, and the Gal will be going shortly, hopefully to be replaced by a reliable vehicle... Mike Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 Don't you get fumes dragged into the car when you have a tailgate window open?I remember driving a van with the rear door open on a dusty road and the cab filled with dust. I'm sure there is an issue there.Oggy. Quote
