The large box containing the fan, aircon evaporator and heater unit is located behind the glove box. This has a number of motorised flaps. Maybe its one of these thats making the noise, or maybe its a leaking seal that blowing/whistling occassionaly.

Sensor fan in the CC panel? air leak as Sk suggests? try altering the air flow to the different vents and see if that helps?

Yes, the "whispering" noise is probably the hissing sound made by the refrigerant in the evaporator when the gas pressure is low - like a kettle - varying a little in intensity and affected by going round corners, accelerating/braking etc. In that case you got a leak and need a topup!

What with the aircon not working properly and the aux heater non functional either the cars in a bit of a state.

Its all my fault - I'm sure I said in a survey here that I had not had any problems with the aircon. :D

I too had the hissing noise you described coming from the glove box area.

Although I regassed the system it lost all its pressure within 24hrs. Went along to the dealers who found a leak on the condensor.

Replaced and regassed. Condensor + Labour =

Is it possible to lose gas for unknown reason and every thing be ok??

The gas does seep out over time, but longer than a couple of months. Often they also put in seal conditioner and the PAG oil makes the seals swell slightly too, the oil is carried round by the gas.
