Hi, needing a little help. My 3rd brake light has stopped working I have checked the bulbs and they are OK, so I guess I have a broken wire. Unless anyone else has any other ideas.

So assuming it it a broken wire what colour of wire and where am I looking for it.

Not got around to buying a Haynes B.O.L. yet although did try to get one today from Helfords.

TIA

usuall culprit will be a broken wire where the wire comes out of the tailgate , they get brittle with age, they pass through a rubber flexible crommet, and i bet it won't be long before another item in the tailgate fails

Yeah thought so had the same problem with an old honda and it's rear screen heater.

Just trying to find out what colours the wires for the brake light are, what side of the tail gate they are on, and were the best place to renew the wire from.

No Joke the VW Sharan is miles better than it rivals  :P

? That good that you have had yours for how long? and you have made a grand total of 187 posts :o most of them asking how to fix or what is this? and how many bits have you replaced this week alone? disc's and pads all round(four sets of pads wasnt it for the front end alone!), wheel bearings, thermostat, water hose on order! plugs and leads...............the list goes on :P so what exactly is better? cos it aint the reliability! :P :P

you know I'm playing with you :P

187 posts ? you must not know about a couple of forums then. :D

Jokin aside most of what I am replacing I do not need to as they are ok,plus the fact I know nothing about VR6's hence all the posts :P

Plugs & leads OK

Oil ,air and fuel filters normal service

Wheel bearings very slight noise

Disc & pads OK

Thermostat Knackered

Hose dribbles when very hot

CV joints 1 clicks on hard lock but not very loud

Starter motor could have been fixed

Rocker cover cover as it was missing

The main reoson for the change is all the above parts new excluding the hose cost me

Be warned if your loom fails and you lose power to the tail gate its a sod to get the hatch open, please check the wires now as better find breaks now rather than later :P.

just back in from having a quick look the wires look ok. Found the black/red wire check for power by baring back a wee bit of the insulation, and found no power. So I think the next place to look will be down near the rear light cluster.

Thank for the advice on the tail lock will try to check all the wires , or if I can get the time just replace all the wires at that point.

It's ok just to strip off a bit of the outer core and check for voltage, but apply a little presure to the cable (give it a good tug) if the inner core has failed it will stretch the outer insulation and most likely snap at the break point! it's unusual for it fail inside the car! it usually fails in the rubber bellows section from all the movementof the hatch being opened and shut! :P
