Cat Pre-warmer

Any experience of a whiney cat-pre-warmer-thingy? (You know - the exhaust gas recirc pump to left of battery). It comes on briefly for cold starts and has started protesting a bit. Probably bearing or maybe small air leak at a guess. Replacement cost looks dire - can they be opened up and lubed?

 

(I'm edging closer and closer to a Previa replacement next yr to match my Avensis at this rate).

Must say I don't think I've seen an ugly'er MPV than the Privia, just my opinion though. ;)
