Because yours is a post face lift model with a CJB it maybe difficult to say where it is! due to a lot of the relays are incorporated into the CJB's panels, what exactly is your problem? and then we may be help you more?

I have a 2.3 Auto Zetec 2001 model and sometimes for no reason the car decides not to start.

All the normal dash lights come on etc, but nothing ,the starter motor doesn't even kick in.

The only thing that I have noticed is that every time this happens I can't hear the petrol pump working and the door alarm light flashes very fast.

I can keep on turning the key but nothing. Then after about 1-4 min the petrol pump starts and the car starts as normal.

I have read a few threads, and some people say it could possibly be the P/N switch or relay 30?

I have listened under the drivers side steering wheel where this relay is supposed to be and can hear some sort of electrical fault that does sound like a relay on its way out.

At the moment I'm not convinced its the P/N switch so I just wanted to know where this relay 30 is and how to get to it so I can change it.

This problem is getting on my T*)s at the moment and always seems to happen when I'm in a rush

Thanks all & Kindest Regards

I had this happen - just once a few months ago and never resolved it. I started by bump starting (which suggests it was related to the starter circuit) however that option isn't open with an Auto. Two thoughts occur, is it related to the immobiliser? (which appears to disconnect the starter) when the chip fell out of the key it behaved in exactly this way.

Also search the threads for problems with the start inhibitor switch on the shifter which seems prone to giving trouble - or is that the P/N switch you're refering to ?o.

Thanx for the reply,I was starting to think it had something to do with the immobiliser. I wonder if the battrey in the key has something to do with it?

And yes i have been told that it could be the P/N switch or start inhibitor switch as you call it, but I'm not convinced with this.

Thanks

my money is on the inhib. switch !!!!

when it fails to turn over , try moving your stick from P to N to P a few times

this should "knock" the switch so to speek , and should turn over

I have tried moving the stick from P to N loads of times but still no go  I can hear some sort of solenoid switch noise coming from under the gear stick, so I presume it's ok.

Thank's docker
