Can Anyone Recommend A Garage?

HI Folks

 

My Galaxy is due for its 60,000 soon so it's cambelt time!. unfortunatley my nearest Ford dealer is Dagenham Motors and there is no way on this planet I'll let them touch my new car after the mess they made with my old Granada! (thats a very long story).

 

So if anyone knows of a decent mechanic around Feltham, Sunbury, Staines, Twickenham area please shout! ( There's Strawberry Hill Motors in Twickenham but I don't know what their like )

Yet again, apparently not, reinforcing the long held belief that finding a "good" garage is as likely as seeing the proverbial pig flying.....

 

With a name like "Strawberry Hill Garage", better check out they're not on drugs before you give em your car.... :blink:

Good grief it's appauling isn't it. You'd think in these days of consumer rights we could at least get decent service :blink:

 

It's not just the motor industry either! it would seem that good "tradesmen" are very hard to find due to the surplass of cowboys and rip-off merchants out there. It seems more and more the only way to get a decent job done is either know someone in the trade who'll give a recommendation or do it yourself!

(dowsnside of course is that if you service a car yourself you can't put a stamp in the book!).

So how far down the M3 from Sunbury do you want to travel? Jct 4? I'd recommend my local NW-autocentre and another independent garage, but I do not know if either actually has experience of doing a Galaxy cambelt change.

Try these guy they have years of VW experience and take on work from all makes. They have serviced my VR6 Sharan / Golfs in the past.

 

They are not to far from you probably a bit further out than you usually travel, about 3 miles from Jct 4 M4.

 

If you ask they can also sometimes collect.

I use New Station Garage in Shepperton.

 

The guys who work there are from the closed Ford dealership in Shepperton (which was called Station Garage). They may not be an official Ford dealer now but the guys have the knowledge.

 

I've used Station Garage (as was) once and the New Station Garage once. Both times have been fine. Next service is next week and I'm using them again.

I used them again the other week. Seem fine. They do what's required. I can't say if they are cheap or not but it seems ok. The couputer wasn't working when I drove away but it was fine by the next morning (I suspect this is because they'd had to disconnect the battery or something or other).

 

The funny thing was the coutesy car. It was an Escort. Having driven the Galaxy for a few years now, driving the Escort was like being in a go-kart. Good fun ! And it was free including the petrol.

I know a great Ford garage in Odiham "Oast Garage" off J5 on the M3. Small family village business, but a Fod dealer. No bullshit, just honest and very very reasonable. I know many peple travel from london to get their cars serviced. But no courtessy car is given.
