Guest galaxybits Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 HiJust wondered what the general opinion on this second failure on my 1996TDI.Bolt into rear transmission steady has sheared. Seriously bad vibes on anything but a crawling gettaway. Had the car Relayed home last night but is it safe to drive it gingerly to my normal repair garage (6 miles). Alternatively is it difficult to do? As it has sheared off, I wonder about any piece of the bolt left in the steady arm, although last time (2001) a dealer did it and only charged for a bolt and labour. Apparently the local Frawd dealer keeps them in stock, rather tells a story in itself. Mark Quote
Buncers Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 If you mean the roll restrictor/stabilizer - see my post http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=5948 Quote
Buncers Posted September 24, 2005 Report Posted September 24, 2005 Is this just a diesel thing. I ask because my neighbour who has a petrol gal, has never had the problem. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted September 24, 2005 Report Posted September 24, 2005 Is this just a diesel thing. I ask because my neighbour who has a petrol gal, has never had the problem. Not just confined to TDI's mines gone twice! ;) both times it was just the bolt so it was easy fix :P Quote
tim-spam Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Probably torque related - TDI = 240 Nm (90PS) or 310 Nm (all PD engines), and VR6 = 270 Nm. All other petrol engines produce way, way less than this. Quote
