Dashboard Rattle

My 2002 Zetec diesel has developed an irritating zizz/rattle from somewhere behind the instrument cluster at 50 mph and above. Anyone know how you get in there to fix the problem..I don't want to break any of the hidden fittings??

Just stay below 50 mph and it will all be ok :unsure: anyway whats a TDI driver doing at 50 MPH! jeez man think of your MPG :lol:

 

back on topic hit the search buttun your not the first to suffer this problem there's a whole lot of posts and different ways to get behind the dash on Mk2, from via the top glove box, from the end panels of the dash next to the A posts and then via the clock mounting panel!

Before ripping the dash apart look at the plastic trim at the bottom of the windscreen (that the wiper spindles and washer jets come through). This is held on by some pretty ropey fixators (especially if someone has already b*ggered about with them). They rattle when the windspeed gets up.

Take it through an automatic carwash and if the rattle returns when the blower comes across the windscreen, bob's your uncle :blink:

Gadgetoid you are a star....wedged the offending bit of trim with some bits of cardboard and problem solved!! Just need to fix it properly now...looks a bit odd with bits of carboard sticking out from in front of the windscreen! I would have put money on the rattle coming from behind the speedo so show's how wrong you can be......... :unsure:
