oioisavaloy Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Does anyone know where I can get another remote key with transponder - But at half the price FORDS are charging Quote
Guest iannicoll Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 I've been intending to do this but haven't quite got round to it. Recently I found various people in the UK selling Ford remote key blanks via the web. Yesterday I passed a key cutting/ shoe repair bar who were offering remote keys. He took mine and said he wasn't allowed to copy it. I didn't find out if he had a suitable blank. But he said he could mill the key for Quote
CasaPaulo Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 What [B]do[B] Fords charge? out of curiosity. I feel a bit smug since my W Seat came with 2 (FOC) as did my wifes' Nissan Micra, my mates' new Kia Seconda only 1 master key. It's never a question normally posed at sale time. On the same, value for money tack. The 'new' Seats don't come with the previously std extra carpets on the SE model now, it's Quote
oioisavaloy Posted February 23, 2003 Author Report Posted February 23, 2003 I have looked on the net as well, there are a lot of key cutters offering a service. Has anyone used these to get a key cut and does the remote work? Regards SAV Quote
Guest iannicoll Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 A slight variation on the theme. My local Ford garage agreed to provide a spare remote key FOC. I bought the car from a different dealer about 150miles away. My garage got the key code from the original supplier, and arranged to get a key cut to that code. I went into the garage this afternoon to get the key and it doesn't fit. The key code used is the one provided with the original car paperwork. Tomorrow there will be some fun getting this sorted out. Ford key and Ford Dealers used. Quote
oioisavaloy Posted February 27, 2003 Author Report Posted February 27, 2003 Sounds nasty Ian let me know how you get on. I have been quoted Quote
Guest iannicoll Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 My story continues. Local garage obtained my key number from the dealer who supplied the car and a key cut to the number didn't fit. It seems Ford dealers use the Bolton Lock and Key company to cut keys, which may be useful to know if anyone is in the Bolton area. My local garage verified the key had been cut to the given number and contacted Ford to veryify the number. Believe it or not Ford don't keep a record of the key number and you have to rely on the dealer to provide the key number. So if the garage burns downs/ goes bust or records the number wrongly you have a problem. The solution to my problem that my local garage is working on is to get a blade cut from the black plastic key supplied with the car and fit the blade to the knob from the miscut key. But nobody has the kit to mill the key locally so they have to send it to Aberdeen. Presumably if I need another key it is the same process. The garage let slip the blank cost them around Quote
Guest shackers Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Hi Ian; I'd be interested to find out how you get on. My understanding is that you only need to find a Key Cutter that can do Laser Cutting, and I know of two others that have gone down thi sroad with no problems... maybe worth looking in Yellow Pages and asking your local Key Cutting service catchya later Quote
oioisavaloy Posted March 21, 2003 Author Report Posted March 21, 2003 I have found as place in Highbury London that cuts the keys and programs the transponder - as you know, you do need at least two keys, to program a third - Crazy when you think about it. I have just one key for my V6, so need to get another key - But because I only have one cannot program another new cut key. Therefore I either have to buy two new ones and reprogram the car/keys or Pay the massive amount to FORD and get another key and let them program the key on their FDS 2000. What do you think? Quote
oioisavaloy Posted April 4, 2003 Author Report Posted April 4, 2003 Does anyone know if I get a key cut - how much FORD charge to progam a key so that the car will start? i am thinking of buying a standard key without buttons for remote door opening etc Regards SAV Quote
Guest iannicoll Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 My garage said they would need the car for an hour to programme new keys. I believe there is built in timedelay in the reprogramme process as a "security" feature. So the mechanic won't be working on the car for a full hour. I'm interetsed to know what you find out Ian Quote
Guest VW Infiltrator Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 I may not be helping a lot here as our '96 Sharan does not have remore locking, but it is a key with a chip in it... VW wanted Quote
Guest manwithtool Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 I recently bought a Sharan, but the remote key was useless, had a range of about 18 inches. So rather than buy another key for Quote
Dally Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 I live in Nottingham and just purchased a second remote for my 02 2.3 zetec. I purchased the remote and a blank for about Quote
