Has anybody got any ideas on this one.

The last week i've been having real trouble starting the car, it was as though the battery was flat, you know, turn the key and click, try again and click, nothing.

Whilst checking the battery and alternator this morning i noticed a ticking ( sounds like a relay ) , upon further investigation i think it is the 'Charge Pressure Control Valve', i'm giving this an educated guess with the use of Haynes and the fact that i can feel it clicking.

I've checked briefly the hoses and wires and all seems fine.

Could it be i need a new one, any ideas on price and could this cause my problems when trying to start the engine.

Cheers

Hi,

Boost Pressure control valve SHOULD slick, as it is pulsed to control boost.. However there is no way it could be causing problems starting, as even if the turbo is knackered, the motor should still start..

Checking out no starter motor syndrome

Auto models of course need to be in Neutral or Park.

Check battery terminal voltage when the key is turned to start position, if it drops significantly below 11V, either the battery is flat or knackered.

Then check you have 12v at the Large starter terminal and it is still there when key is in start position. If not then check battery leads and starter motor leads are secure and not corroded.

Finally check that you get 12v at the solenoid connection with the key in the start position. If not check why. For facelift models, check fuse 25, (immobiliser) relay K191 and ignition key switch. For Auto models also check auto transmission relay K71.

If all tests OK then the starter motor is faulty.

Thanks guys,

I did check the battery but then didnt check the other areas, apart from the alternator giving out enough power to charge it.

The fact that the charge pressure control value should tick gives me some comfort but i cant believe i haven't heard it before, it is quite loud.
