With the new posts and images of the new Galaxy it got me wondering what new gizzmos and gadgets you would like to have if you were to buy one.

Preferably sensible suggestions but whatever.

I am not a gadget person and would prefer to have a car that has little extras as long as everything worked for as long as I owned the car.....wishful thinking I know.

Can you guys think of new ideas you would love to have.

Knowing your sense of humour and p**s taking ability I know there will be a few weird and wonderful suggestions.

Reliable aircon

Sliding doors would be nice and keyless entry and starting would also be useful.

Oh and my own personal chauffeur called Les

Inbuilt hydraulic jacks to stop the garages and tyre fitters from creasing the sills (and to make it easier to change a puncture  )

Aux input for the audio system

Satnav as standard

Oil level indicator (if Renault can do it, so can Ford)

Minidisc player and DAB tuner as standard

a galaxy that has 300bhp, 500NM of torque, and does at least 100mpg.

basically i would like, a Automatic with 6 or 7 gears, full electric windows, automatic rain sensing, built in satnav, leather, DVD, computer, internet connection, and for everything to be as automated as possible, like the idea of sliding doors.

Sounds like my nephew's BMW X5 3.0d Sport (except for the 100mpg bit)!

Mostly just a totally reliable car -

Reliable Air COn

Drop links that last for at least 50K miles

Wipers that won't seize

Gear cables that don't take 4 hours to fit

Cheaper more easily available tyres.

Thats all

Thanks for the replies, I was however trying to see new inventions you would like to see on a new Galaxy not just a list of things that need improving on the current one.

Items like

sliding doors

fluid level indicators

internet connections etc

keep em coming anyway.

All weak points (links/trackrods/wipers/maf/aircon etc) thoroughly improved.

Maintenance free camchain instead of cambelt

Compehensive fault reporting on dash, e.g. VACOM type codes or better still english

Power steering electro hydraulic system

AirCon, reliable maintance free, electrically driven (i.e. not on engine)

Air filter and oil filter condition sensors (e.g. pressure sensors to check when blocked/require changing)

Oil drain plug accessible at front of car without removing main covers.

Extended service intervals

Front bonnet and bumper that has highly stone chip resistant finish.

Protection to vunerable front areas - fog lights - intercooler - a/c bits - from flying debris e.g stones

Most suspension components made out of aluminium.

Full underbody trays/covers inc sills.

Weight reduction - possibly seats.

Class leading economy and emissions

Energy recovery system (electro dynamic braking) - (semi hybrid)

MP3/CD radio with a front mounted aux input and a slot for SD card or USB key

SatNav with speed limiter function

front and rear parking sensors

Front Window tint band and windows that refect more heat

rear windows tint electrically controllable

Electrically retracting mirrors

cruise control as standard

Decent quality car mats available at reasonable price.

Jacks on each corner sounds good (bit caravany, but good).

Different car I know, but I would like some sort of ecomony light that tells you when your driving style is good. Just like the old vacuum gauges.

A great big bloody FOG HORN that deafens the idiot in the next car who is just about to open their car door onto your "already battered from previous idiots" door.

Otherwise I think I agree with what everyone else would like :)

I would like

- more luggage space for when I have six pasengers. (make the gal longer)

- additional cigarette lighter socket in the front as I have too many gadgets

- a console between the driver and front passenger seat *. Could be used for CD / DVD's or even a taxi radio

- a drop down step to get into the back seats - they are high for the elderly

- GPS aerial(s) built into the roof

- cupholders in the back

- plus all the current flaws (air-con, etc.) fixed

I don't want

- fancy seat fabrics

- less luggage space

* Remove the swivel chairs in the front - who uses them anyway.

I think you'll find that the Driver and Front seat passenger use those seats....they just dont use the swivel facility

I know what you mean though. I have swivelled them once (well twice otherwise they would be pointing the wrong way!) and found it to be the most uncomfortable position ever.

I would also like to see a center console. Remember in the seventies when all car accessory shops had loads of different center consoles :)

We use these regularly. In fact this was one of the things we particularly wanted on the Gal. They are great for picnics. We take out 2 middle seats to leave a large space and it works great. Drivers one is a bit tricky to swivel but with a bit of practice it's quite easy.

Funnily enough, having owned and used cars/vans with sliding doors, I much prefer ordinary hinged opening doors - after all, if you're too close to open a door, you're probably too close to get in and out anyway, and the front doors will still be hinged.

As regards cam chains, if these are properly designed, they will last longer than belts, BUT, when they do need changing, the work and cost involved is much greater - I know, because my Merc 190D chain needed replacing at around 200,000 miles. Also, belts are quieter.

when we got the gal I thought that sliding doors might be good but after watching someone trying to get themselves run over getting out of a car with sliding doors parked the wrong way around on a busy road I've changed my mind. ;)

I remember reading somewhere that the reason Fords didn't go down the sliding door route was that if a normal door is open it should be obvious to other drivers that the door is open and that someone(especially children) may emerge from that door. Not quite so obvious if the door is flat against the bodywork. ;) Andy.
