Thanks Mike

 I have now tried the number quoted in one of your previous postings - but unfortunately trying 13421 to enable is not accepted by the instrument control module (17) after login.

Perhaps its due to mine being a manula gearbox ? or was the number posted incorectly ?

Have just realised that my instrument cluster is coded as 13401 but I cannot seem to recode it - vag-com lets you type in a new code (it warns me to make a note of the old number first ) but it then seems to do it but just comes back as being coded as 13401

Do I need version 4 or is version 3 of vag-com OK ? or am I doing something completely wrong ? do you need to log in with the SKC or something ??

I found an internet link which suggests that the first 2 digits of the code set the options, the 3rd digit is the country (4 is UK) the 4th digit is the service interval and the last digit is a speedo rev factor depending on which transmission you have. Although this is for a mk4 golf !!! but I'm sure the shalazy is similiar.

:) Right

I have now tried some more

My cluster is currently coded as 01401 (Brake pad wear indicator enabled)

I can change it to 00401 (no brake pad wear indicator)

I can change it to 05401 (brake pad wear indicator & Windscreen washer sensor)

I cannot add in the code (8) to enable the trip computer functions

ie 13401 is taken in ok but leaves the code in the cluster unchanged

Perhaps since my Zetec Galazy is Manual, the display is not there - auotmatics will have it to show the gear selection - or do you have to turn the computer / display on in the ECU or somewhere else first ??

Vag com reports the following from the instrument cluster - 17

VAG No. 7M5 920 900M

KOMBINSTRUMENT VDO V60

SOFT CODING 01401

SHOP No. WSC00020

can someone out there perhaps with a manual diesel please let me know what their inst cluster is reported as - it would be usefull to know what the numbers from an Auto are too. Please can you also indicateif you have a trip computer too. thanks Brian

I see your Galaxy is a 2004 and therefore still within warranty.

Is there no restriction on you dabbling with the on board diagnostics and voiding the warranty.

If I were Mr Ford and registered that the customer was altering the settings etc I don't think I would accept any claims after that.

Maybe worth checking out before changing.

:)Seatkid if I did try a girlfriend to help with all those long miles you are probably right I then wouldnt have a wife and probably be missing some various other parts too !!!

Has no one had time or the inclination to vag com their instrument clusters to see what they report back for me ?

Or has anyone actually enabled the trip computer in their Manual Diesel Shalazy ??

Thanx

Brian
