~adema~ Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 Hey GuysThink i found the cause of that strange grinding creaking noise every time i took a sharp left turn.I had a proper look under the front driver side wheel arch and this was hanging off!!, since i removed it, the noise is still there sometimes but nowhere near as bad.Fortunately one of my workmates was a mechanic for 15 years and said if i get a new one, he'll put it on during dinner break one day. Can't remember what he said it was called though   Jeff Quote
marinabrid Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 stabiliser link arm, drop link all common names quite a common prob on these cars. some has put piccys on how to change if you look thru past things Quote
seatkid Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005  Well, you idle so and so......fancy....posting here....asking opinions......if only YOU GOT OUT AND HAD A LOOK and seen bits were hanging off! :o Isnt there someting in the Highway Code about regular visual inspection of your car? Quote
_dg Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 lol On a previous car I went for months with a strange burning smell from under the car, and I was convinced it was a major oil seal problem from the engine so I did not bother really looking for the problem or even looking after the car as I thought it may be a costly job and may have to get rid of the car or it would not last long. It turned out to be a black bag stuck on a silencer and melting with the heat. Was I relieved and the car got cleaned and vacumned quite regularly afterwards - and for some years after. I think even I would have noticed something like a stabiliser arm hanging off though  Quote
~adema~ Posted September 9, 2005 Author Report Posted September 9, 2005 Sorry for not being as technically savvy as you guys obviously are, i only passed my test two and a half months ago and happen to be fairly new to cars. I also happen to be very busy with work and four kids, one of which happens to be autistic so scrambling about under my car is not always top of my agenda. But hey, i've been told now so i guess i'll buck my ideas up eh.I came on here for help seatkid, not criticism. seatkid Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 Not criticism, just a dig... You don't have to be technically savvy to use your ears and eyes.....it like someone asking why their car won't start but not bothering to see if they've run out fuel..... At least you posted the solution, which is a lot more than others do......consider yourself redeemed! Quote
_dg Posted September 10, 2005 Report Posted September 10, 2005 Just do what I do - wait for the mot, a warning light on the dash or just till the car konks out before even thinking about lifting that bonnet. And I do a six monthly visual inspection when I wash it. Its a good system  Quote
