Guest baz007 Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 Help please ! I am going mad........ I have recently purchased Galaxy 2.8i V6 (1998)with all the gadgets, one of the extras was a CD Changer built in to the rear compartment. Unfortunately last owner replaced the original stereo with a cheap Kenwood system. To keep the car original i was hoping to get a Ford stereo and have the CD changer back in working order, sounds simple ?Anyway i have been having fun ordering 2007R stereos from E-Bay (4 IN TOTAL) 1st 2006 ford cassette2nd 2007 ford cassette3rd 2007r ford cassette/cd changer Comp (no flip of front)4th 2007r ford cassette/cd changer comp (with small flip of front) The problem i am having is when trying to connect the CD Changer connector into the required slot in the back of the 2007RCD radio, the connector will not fit fully into the slot and is restricted by 5 small teeth like prongs. So because i was lost for answers i removed the prongs inside the slot and tried again only to be supprised again, still did'nt work! If you can, please explain why a compatible Ford stereo is not compatible with a factory fitted ford CD Changer i would be very grateful... what am i doing wrong, what stereo should i be fitting, is there an adapter ???? many thanks Barry Quote
Guest MATT Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Do the old kenwood head unit operate the cd changer? MATT Quote
Guest baz007 Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Hi,No the old Kenwood did not operate the changer. but i have found somthing out today. the connector i mentioned above is for the speakers and therefore has no direct link to my cd changer(back to square 1).Please ignore the issue above ! I do still have the same problem though, the CD Changer is not being picked up by the 2007RCD stereo unit. when i press MAN/CD button it will not display the CD option like it should acording to the manual. The following connections are in the back of my unit :- 1 x Yellow connector (6 wires approx)1 x speaker connector as mentioned above.1 x power supply connector (live, earth Ect.) My biggest query is where is the connection for my CD Changer, is it included in the yellow connector. Thats what i am starting to think now. IF THATS NOT IT THEN I AM 100% LOST. Please help Barry............... Quote
steve67car Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 sould be a thin gray ribbon that plugs in or a small black block but the first one is for earlier gals :) Quote
Guest baz007 Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 I have checked all the wiring and it looks like the CD changer is plugged into the amplifier under the radio. another thing i am thinking is maybe the changer is broken and needs replacing, i have chacked all the fuses and they are ok too, so maybe it is the changer itself. It does eject cd cassette so it must be cannected up ok. i will try and order a cheap cd changer and try it out but if you have any other ideas i am happy to try them..... Thanks again Barry................... Quote
Guest MATT Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Ok, I will explain my system, but mine is a MKII galaxy (x reg) 1) although the CD changer may eject the cassette, this does not mean that the audio outputs are connected to the head unit. we do know that the changer has got a power supply. 2) my system has a sony CD changer, connecting to a ford head unit, and in-between the two, is an converter. 3) the sony cd changer outputs are Phono, and data. the inputs are power, and the controls. these go into a converter, and it comes out as one square socket. If the head unit does not 'pick-up' the changer, then i would expect that something is not connected. if the cd changer was knacked, then i would expect to get some form of error message. Picture behind my head unit:(from the left; speaker connections, the empty socket is for the auto volume control, the its the power supplies, then the cd changer, then the Ariel.) Quote
Guest MATT Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 If you would like, i would be happy to unplug my cd changer to see how the head unit responds to it, but again, i have the RDS4050, different head unit. MATT Quote
Guest MATT Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 A photo of the back of your unit would help. MATT Quote
Guest baz007 Posted September 10, 2005 Report Posted September 10, 2005 A BIG THANKS for all your trouble. With the help of your photo i noticed that a wire in the yellow connector had been fitted into the wrong location within the block itself. please dont ask how that happened, previous owner had done it i suppose. All i done was move the blue wire from loc 3 --> loc 6 and PHONE stopped comming up on display and hay presto the CD works ! Thanks again Barry.... Quote
