dave2 Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 Does anyone from VW or maybe Ford know what the correct pressure should be on my Galaxy. It's a Zetec 1999 with Dunlop 215/55 R16 95H Reinforced. The Ford owners guide says for half load, 34psi front and 31 psi rear yet on the door pillar there's a VW plate which says 39psi front and 36psi rear. It's the same with a full load figures too, 37 to 40 front and 42 to 48 rear.Surley somethings wrong here when the maximum pressure stated on the tyres is only 49 psi.How can it be safe to run on Max pressures as these are cold pressures which will increase when hot ? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 the Vee-Dub figures look correct - I have a facelifted model with the 215/55 tyres and from memory they're supposed to be at about 44 front, 38 rear for normal driving - I remember pumping loads of air into them just after I bought the car!Tyre pressures are always for cold contitions; the manufacturers take into account the change in pressure with temperature rise from high-speed use. This is one of the reasons that F1 cars have such poroblems when changing or inflating tyres, a small pressure difference when cold makes a lot of difference when running at 200mph with high cornering loads! markos69 Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Just checked the Tyre's on my Galaxy, not had it that long. I have 215/55/16, tyre presure's are set at 34 front and 31 rear, would you recommend increasing this to 44 front and 38 rear, It is unusual for it to be fully laden. I have also been looking at the posts about reinforced tyre's and load weights. Mine has 93w and 93v on the front and 97w and 93w I know the letter on relates to speed, nut its the load weight that worries me I saw a post saying 95 min reqired. I think its time to put a new set on and get all the same, any recommendations on tyre's? Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Handbook is useless....on both counts. Mine came new with 95 load rating. One assumes that this is likely to be the minimum on new, but I suspect that the tyre manufacturers will suggest as low as 91. They are H speed rated (130mph), whereas yours are much higher. Tyre pressures are on the filler flap. I run mine at 38 front, 36 rear. COLD. Otherwise, ride is far too hard. In almost 12000 miles, no peculiar wear has occured. Quote
Guest simon D Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Hi just had 2 tyres dunlop 2020, 215 55 16s fitted to mine by a company called www.etyres.co.uk they came out at Quote
Guest Boggler Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 I have always used Continental CH90's, it is what was fitted from the Factory so I have kept to that. I used to have them replaced at Kwik-fit, their price was Quote
3HILTON Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 I have just bought 2 new fronts dunlop 215/55/16 95h reinforced cost of Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Dunlop 2020 215/55R16 for mine Quote
Guest simon D Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Why is it that there is such a big difference in price depending on what part of the country you live in? Seem to be getting ripped off living down south i might start looking at parts in france seeing im only 26 miles away. Also has anyone tried the Nokian tyres they are reinforced and come out at only Quote

Mussey1 Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 In reply to Simon D, I put on 4 Nokian NRH2 215/55/16 tyres in April and am very happy with them. They seem to be wearing well are quiet and seem good in the wet. They also have a unique tyre wear indicator, with the amount of tread left stamped along the centre of the tyre, easy to see what is left at any time!! People have also commented that they 'look good'?? They cost me 65 quid each fitted. Made in Finland, so at least they are not far eastern rubbish!! I also think that they are quite popular in North America. Worth a look - www.nokiantyres.com P.S - If they do ultimately turn out to be crap I will let you know!! Mussey 1. :D Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 If you had stated that yours were non-standard sizes in the first place, the price comparisons would have been valid. As it is, those with standard tyres are paying wildly different prices for exactly the same thing. Which is sick. Quote
Guest Andy Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 Since kwik-fit has been taken over by another company a few months ago they are keen to get ALL prices down to more realistic prices, not sure how long that will last though lol lol :D DUNLOP SO2020 Quote
Guest mick Posted August 20, 2003 Report Posted August 20, 2003 :D Have Nokian tyres fitted to my present MPV, and have done about 10k kM in past year with little wear evident. Find they give very little road noise, even at (sensible?) autobahn speeds. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted August 20, 2003 Report Posted August 20, 2003 Nokians: do they balance up well? i.e. no shimmy from out of balance wheel/tyre? Quote
Mussey1 Posted August 20, 2003 Report Posted August 20, 2003 I have driven at 80mph++ (overtaking of course!!) and the balancing has been fine, no wobble or shaking at all. I have not seen any tyre tests in the press for Nokian tyres, however as they are mainly made for the Scandanavian market I would imagine that they are pretty good in the wet. A good buy especially for those North of the Watford Gap!!!!! Mussey1. Quote
Zork Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 I'm a little confused about the tyre pressures. i have mine as per the handbook, 31 and 34 I think, everything feels fine. How can there be this 10psi difference across models. There must be some reason for it. By the way i have Nokians, they seem ok and you can change the ringtones :P Quote
Mussey1 Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 Zork, The figures in your handbook are in lb/In, I think this is what the guage on tyre inflators at the garages use. I have mine tyres at approx 35 fron 37/38 back. Mussey1. Quote
Zork Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 I'm even more confused now! Surely lb/in is PSI ( pounds per square inch) which is what i have inflated my tyres to. Quote
markos69 Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Finally ordered 4 Tyre's this morning, having them fitted Thursday. 215/55/16 Dunlop, Quote
