wjfe Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Can anyone suggest a typical life span for a set of drop links? Thanks Bill Quote
Masked Marauder Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 I fitted some new ones last week. I don't intend doing again for at least a year, regardless of if they start knocking again. Quote
Guest gritrash Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 O/S went at 18k, N/S still original, on 22k Quote
Nick Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 NS went at 205,000 on mine. OS still going strong at 214,000 :P Quote
seatkid Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 As you can see from the above there is no "typical" mileage. It's all down to the luck of the draw. I would say a significant proportion fail (wear) in 30-40k. Quote
Velcrohead Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 My Gal has just hit 60k and sounds like they need changing.Which reminds me they are sitting on my floor ready for fitting. Quote
Ivor Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Replaced nearside last month at 53K, offside ok. Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 145,000 - dont know how long they had been knocking before i got the car Quote

my_other_wife_has_a_galaxy Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 How can you tell if the drop links need replacing? Phil Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 How can you tell if the drop links need replacing? Phil You get a rattle/clunking noise from the front end! especially over rough roads! also grabing hold of the link bar and giving it a good shake may show signs of wear? if you get excessive movement! also a good sign is that the rubber seal around the ball joints split and perish! my_other_wife_has_a_galaxy Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 Thanks for the info - what else can be replaced on the front end - is replacing the bushes on the lower arm a fraud job? We've got a noise on our front end - reverse it off the drive and when the brake is applied a 'clunky' rattle is heard - don't think it happens again while driving though. Think I'll be investigating this a littler further. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 Also check the top mounts! Quote
