Guest ladydriver Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 :( Just bought a V reg 1999 Ka2. I have no maintenance manual and do not have a clue how to open the yellow oil filler cap to top up the oil. Can anyone advise.
GSMGuy Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Hi and welcome... If the cap you are talking about is yellow with red writing, then it's coolant... The Oil cap sgould be black with yellow writing (if memory serves correctly) and it's a simple turn anticlockwise to remove.. HTH Mike
_dg Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I would do as I do and wait for the dashboard light to come on before worrying about such things. :( And then its a screw thread anti-clockwise
johnb80 Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 I would do as I do and wait for the dashboard light to come on before worrying about such things. :P And then its a screw thread anti-clockwise I wouldn't, the only oil light on the KA is probably oil pressure not oil level in which case you would end up with a trashed engine. Guest ladydriver Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Thanks for the above advice. I may be coming across as a bit thick here but what I consider to be the oil filler cap is not like anything that I have seen before. I do know where everything else is coolant, washer and power steering fluid. The oil filler cap has two rubber hoses connected to it and appears to be a straight lift out of the engine compartment although i dont want to force this without confirming first. Any anticlockwise turning would affect the connected hoses. This oil cap has a completely yellow plastic top attached to a metal pipe which appears to insert into the engine. I assume this is the oil cap as it is has a large oil can on the yellow plastic lid. I have looked to see if I can flip the plastic top off but it appears to be fixed. Can any one shed any further light. Thanks

You are correct , the oil filler cap lifts off the engine! the hoses to it are breathers for the engine, just give it a firm tug :P while twisting it back and forth and it should pop out! then rest it on the cam cover to one side while you top up the oil
Masked Marauder Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Yep. as above. It is not just an oil cap it is a seperator to take the oil vapour out of the breathers
Guest j_mchattie Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Should look a little bit like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Transit-2-5-DI-...1QQcmdZViewItem You can see a rubber O-ring on the left hand pipe - this is the bit that is currently wedged in your engine. Give it a sharp tug and it will come out (beware a bit of oil my splash out too). Doesnt need any turning round (except a few degrees to free the O-ring).

Approx 0.75 litre of oil from MIN to MAX. When adding oil never top up above the MAX mark. Use Formula E 5W30 oil, from Ford dealer or Motorcraft
