Guest iancar Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 my galaxy has started to overheat, i supected a head gasket so got the ford chemical test done on the water bottle, this was all clear, there is no sign of power loss, oil usage, or water in the oil, the car runs fine as long as i don't try to go up a hill, if i do the temperature rises quite quickly and will overheat if i continue to try accelerating. any ideas please Ian Quote

Masked Marauder Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 run the car hot and feel the hoses round the pump. Quote
johnb80 Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 What about the thermostat not opening fully? Demand more power going up a hill, more heat developed but it can't get rid of it due to low water flow rate? Regards - John Quote
seatkid Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 Most likely to be a failing water pump as this is a common fault. This can sometimes be confirmed by letting the engine get up to temperature, and with the engine idling, turn on the heater on full blast. If it goes cool after a short while then the pump is gone. Otherwise, most would advise you change the thermostat first as it might be this and it is a little job to change c/w water pump. You need to remove the timing belt to change the water pump, so consider changing the timing belt at the same time. Quote
