Guest bigrabdl Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 Hello people , Driving on the A66 last night my gal jumped out of 6th gear , stopped the car then started to drive again with no problems , then a noise and a lot of grinding and she stopped . Called the RAC who got me back to Glasgow but when we lifted the Gal to tow her we noticed that there was a hole in the gearbox and what looked like the shaft sticking out . Any suggestion as to what may have caused this ? 2002 1.9tdi 80,000 mls .Any idea a price for the gearbox new or used ? Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 ...your problem has been caused by a catastrophic gearbox failure! Good luck finding a new gearbox, it will be stupendously expensive. In this instance I would have to suggest trying to find a good secondhand one, after all there are three makes of vehicle all with gearboxes which will fit perfectly. Go to a specialist breaker and pay good money (don't buy cheap!) to get a low mileage unit with a decent warranty. Go to an independant gearbox specialist, have the gearbox oil changed and have a new clutch kit put in at the time of fitting. This is going to cost you money to repair, there is no way round it.Don't skimp or cut corners and try to be philosophical about it, this is a very rare fault and it's bloody bad luck that it's happened to you. You have my sympathy...now cheer up! Quote
michael.galaxy Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005  I had the same kind off thing happen on my 2002 1.9 Td it turned out to be the offside driveshaft splines sheared cost me Quote
