Hi all

I have the original 5000 RDS EON in my Galaxy and have been suffering from a noisy speaker - I changed what I thought was the broken one in the osr door but that hasn't cured it. By using the balance and fade I can sort of isolate it to the front right hand speakers - so I thought maybe the system is kaput - so I went on to ebay bid for a few lost two and won two! have you checked the wiring in the rubber boot, between the door and the car. it might be damaged.

otherwise, i thought the crossover was in the head unit? but that's just 'Matt's theory X'

the nearside rear door and rear panel speakers did not work in our 2000 tdi ghia, upon investigation I found that there were 4 broken wires in the door to pillar wiring harness,I repaired these but the speakers still didnt work and would make a crackling noise every time the radio was switched on or off,the dash also started to smoke and smell of burning :D to cut a very long story short I found that the amplifier had suffered a partial burn,I replaced it with a second hand one out of a mk1 mondeo ghia x and hey presto fully functioning stereo system.I had one hell of a job to find a second hand amp as they are only fitted in ghia models and didnt fancy paying

Hi all

My stereo still has the problem - I have been told it sounds like an amplifier problem called motor boating - SO where is the amplifier - is it integral with the radio unit or is it separate - and if so where is it?

All help gratefully recevied!!

have you checked the rubber boots?

'Matt's theory Y, the frayed wires might of shorted, and then damaged the amp'

so if it is the wires, you will need to fix that first, before replacing anything.

 you need to check wiring in door shuts as all ready stated

if the over sized ford radio in 2000/01` on fords then no external amp if early car [ ie mk1] then when the radio is slid forward then if you have a gray ribbon plugged into the back of the radio then the amp is under the second din hole [the one with the pocket in] is a bugger to get at a little stripping down is required :(

Thanks Guys

Yes it's the MK11 with the double din sized stereo - so I assume that it has no external or remote amp - Therefore I need to check the cables in the rubber boot.

I'll let you knoiw how I get on

Thanks again
