BrummyGit Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 I've just ordered a new Galaxy TDi 150 Ghia, but I am still totally confused about the heating and climate specification. Please can someone clarify for me: I think from searches on here, that I will have an auxiliary heater which increases the coolant temp in cold weather to supplement the engines heat output. I guess this will give a fast warm-up in winter. Hopefully faster than my Audi A4 with a 130bhp PD engine. It looks like the climate control has front & rear zones for temperaure, but what is the 3rd temp displayed on the panel? If it is external, is this duplicated by the trip computer? There appears to be rear heater ducts in the headlining for rows 2 & 3. Does this mean I'll get dual-airconditioners or not? - the brochure seems to say only on the V6 engine. Is the heater and cooling in the car I've ordered up to the job? Thanks Quote
johnb80 Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 Yes you will get quicker warm up and the sound of a small jet turbine running underneath (great for confusing baseball hat wearing nova / corsa driving yobbo's). 3rd Temp is the outside air temp. Sounds like you have dual aircon if you have the roof vents. It was fitted on my 115 Ghia as an option I think. So far mine has coped very well. I leave the temp set at 21 most of the year and it's comfortable. I have on some very hot days set it down to 18 degrees and it seems to manage fine. Enjoy. 150 engine should be interesting, let us know how you get on. Regards - John Quote
HJT Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 Dual aircon is standard now on all Ghia models. Howard Quote
BrummyGit Posted August 25, 2005 Author Report Posted August 25, 2005 Dual aircon is standard now on all Ghia models. Howard Thanks, that is what I'd hoped you would say  The brochure lists this as standard on the V6 engined Ghia at one point, but just lists it against the Ghia in another. Also there was no choice to add it as an option. Quote
BrummyGit Posted August 25, 2005 Author Report Posted August 25, 2005 150 engine should be interesting, let us know how you get on. Thanks, will do Quote
BrummyGit Posted August 31, 2005 Author Report Posted August 31, 2005 Thanks for the informative replies. OK I'm starting to understand what I'm getting here - two heaters and two air-conditioning units (and lots to go wrong), but I've also read that the car has "Diesel Parking Heater" in a number of places (just do a google). Please tell me this is what I'm hoping for (heating without the engine running), or is it just an incorrect description? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 Please tell me this is what I'm hoping for (heating without the engine running), or is it just an incorrect description? There are two versions, one does and one does not. What you will get though, I don't know, but the unit with the timer and run on delay is indeed independent of the alternator/engine running. Quote
BrummyGit Posted August 31, 2005 Author Report Posted August 31, 2005 That really is teasing me :( How can I find out? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 How can I find out? By asking the salesman/dealers! but unless you specced the vehicle with it I would be very suprised if you got it! it's not an option that is used a lot in the UK, maybe in countries with colder climes? I have only seen two UK Galaxy's with it fitted! and one of them was a 2.3 petrol the other a VR6 and that on one when they fitted them as standard for a while to the VR6 :( Quote
BrummyGit Posted September 1, 2005 Author Report Posted September 1, 2005 How can I find out? By asking the salesman/dealers! You are kidding about asking the salesman - they know bugger all in most cases. I was not offered a choice of parking heater when I looked at all the options, but I've seen numerous google pages listing it - and parkers also list it in the spec. When considering whether to buy Seat, Ford or VW I asked a Seat dealer about ESP for the 1.9TDi 130 Alhambra and was told it was electrically assisted something or other and was of course included on the car I was looking at - all complete bull***t and not available on UK diesel models :( I ended up on the phone to 2 different sets of ford customer care people trying to find out why some ford brochures and price lists say the technology pack is available on 115 and 130 bhp TDi's and others also say the 150 bhp. Also why the dealers build a car computer doesn't charge for the techology pack on the 150bhp but does on the 130bhp - yet the dealers just pick up a calculator and add the price on at the end. I never got a decent answer and will reject my TDi 150 if it arrives without. So in my opinion the salesman just wants my money any which way. The people on this board are more likely to know, and obviously care about Galaxys to be on here in the first place - it's been a great source of information already. Sadly I'll assume it won't be on my car then :o Quote
