Bash Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 So who can tell me which oil i should be putting in my just acquired 96 1.9 TDi 90 Galaxy. Semi or full synthetic oil? which brand? Castrol? Mobil? Millers? or A.N.Other? The cars done 112,000 miles regularly serviced and drives nicely, but i dont know whats in the sump now and i want to start off with a fresh batch of oil so i have some peace of mind from now on. Anyones help and knowledge would be much appreciated. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 See my "oil be enlightened" posting. DO NOT use Castrol SLX II (or any other 0W30). Use a 5W40; probably best to use a synthetic oil if, like me, you plan to keep the car for a while and prefer to use a good oil for peace of mind.Haven't checked out the grade of Mobil 1, but this may be suitable. Bash Posted July 16, 2003 Author Report Posted July 16, 2003 Thanks Ivor, I did read your piece on the castrol oil, but wasnt sure if it was just about 110 engines upwards. I also read the reply from the newspaper about Millers oils, and have checked out their website today. they make a range of diesel oils semi and full synthetic, im gonna try the fully synthetic as you suggested, its 5W/40 spec and my local stockist sells it for Quote
Guest reefer Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 I have a96 TDi 90 galaxy and I use Halfords 10W-40 semi synthetic oil with good results.I change oil and filter every 6000m and use wynns engine flush at every oil change. Plus I use a good quality oil filter too.Bit costly but I have to keep this one for a while yet + I tow a caravan also with it so it gets worked hard towing, specially in this heat.30C in my back garden a noon, (Chorley, Lancashire)Hope it keeps up cos' i'm on holiday on Friday.
