Aspen is the name given to the base, stripped-of-almost-everything model, to make it sound more attractive.

Some were sold with only 5 seats and no aircon (I think these were added later on in the model's life) so take care when looking round before buying. Could try something like Parkers or What Car used buying guide to see if they list more detail of trim differences.

Sounds like we need to find someone who has an old brochure lying around.

What is the date of reg of the Aspen you are going to see?

Just returned from garage

Aspen has not got:

front swivel seats

height adj. on pasanger seat

vanity mirrors with lights

lights in roof door handles

tray tables

and NO abs (garage said it did) but as there are no fuses in the 2 holes and no warning light I think not

also the petrol cut off switch was not connected, plug was covered in foam (looks like ford foam)

It did have front heated screen and air con but i aint buying it, missing 2many of the glx extras

car was on a "R" plate

Hmm, if the fuel cut-off was disconnected, I'd walk away from it too. I used to work for the co that made these cut-offs and they are extremely reliable. We had a few problems on various cars but this was caused by manufacturers fitting them in inappropriate places where they could be triggered by vibration - the classic being the Sierra where Ford at one point fitted it in the spare wheel well. After a puncture, most people threw the flat into the boot, which triggered the switch, so having had a puncture, the car would then not start !

We took to insisting on validating the installations after that.

The info I found on the Aspen last night suggests that the later ones were missing alloy wheels, swivel seats, heated seats, some interior lighting, CD player, parking sensors etc, though 7 seats were supplied and some had ABS (may have been an extra).

My 96 TDi Aspen only has,

Adjustable height for drivers seat

Tray tables

passenger side vanity mirror (No light)

7 seats

Electric front windows

2 power sockets in rear by tailgate

Other than that completely bog standard, no luxuries at all.

In some respects a lot less things to go wrong.
