Guest jus Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 How do you change the remote locking battery in the key & where can you get a battery? The handbook helpfully recommends seeking Ford dealer assistance! Thanks Jus Quote
Masked Marauder Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 The key needs two batteries and they are very common and easily sourced, look on eBay for them for pennies. They are type CR2016. I got some from this guy, his batteries are fresh, his prices are competitive and his postage costs realistic. Quote
Guest Galaxylady Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 I needed to replace the battery in my key and when I opened it found only 1 battery. Should it have 2 , and when replaced does it need to be reprogrammed or should it work as normal? Di Quote
Masked Marauder Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 Open it again, remove the battery. You should now see a metal sheet under where the battery was, remove that and there is the other battery. You should not need to re-program, but if you do it is a simple procedure. Quote
RussT Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 I took Masked Marauder advise on the battries and as he says this guy is cheap and very quick on delivery. I have a further problem with mine though, when my battries went a couple of years ago I replaced them but they only lasted 2 days. So I thought bugger this as I paid top price, from Ford for them. Any way after Masked Marauder advise on cheap batteries I thought I would try again. Still only lasting 2 days, and the torch key light does not work. Does anybody know how I can fix this short circuit or do I need a new Key. Thanks RussT  Quote
Masked Marauder Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 The batteries I got from the guy were fitted over 6 months ago and are still fine, so it does sound like a short circut. Quote
Guest Galaxylady Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 Thanks for the advice , key now has 2 new batteries but won't start the car. I have tried the handbook method of reprogramming, but no luck so far , must be doing something wrong.Any advice greatly appreciated. Galaxylady Quote
seatkid Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 How come I'm still on my original key battery after 7 years without a problem? <_< RussT - you did put the batteries in the right way round? One maybe the wrong way round. As my key only has one battery (no light) I can't advise further.... Quote

It may have dropped out when you changed the batteries. You really need to find it as it is that that works the imobiliser, not the batteries. I will try to get some photos up in the morning so you understand what I am talking about. Quote
Guest Galaxylady Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 Hi there, think I know what you are talking about, is it held in by a metal clip opposite the batteries ? if so it's still there. Thanks again for your quick reply Quote
RussT Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 The first time I put them in the wrong way and they did not work at all.So I turned one of them round and as said the key worked for a couple of days. It is confusing the hell out of me . RussT Quote

Thanks again for your quick reply No, it is not in the remote, it is in the horseshoe part of the key that the remote part clips into. it looks like this http://www.bigtrucker.co.uk/images/transponder.jpg Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 Also do not the conductive surfaces of the battery's if you have to pick them up do it by the edges as the acid/grease on your skin can shorten the life of the battery's! seatkidHow come I'm still on my original key battery after 7 years without a problem? because your a tight wad Yorkshireman? and refuse to put your hand in your pocket to buy some new one's! :) come on tell the truth the battery's actually died three years ago B) Quote
Masked Marauder Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 He never uses the torch as he is scared to go out after dark? Quote

I'm also on original brakes at 65,000 miles! And the car uses less fuel than a Skoda 1.2 Fabia! :D :D But it is a single battery key without any light......Got 2 remote keys with the Skoda so should be OK for at least 14 years :P Quote

Thanks again masked marauder Galaxylady There is a slot that it fits into. Perhaps it is an idea to glue it in just in case the key ever comes apart. I have mine! Quote
