Guest Patrick Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Dear all brothers I live in Hong Kong and drive a 98 Ford Galaxy 2.3L (petrol) with automatic transmission. Last week, I drove my car as usual and the engine suddenly shut down when it stop in front of the traffic light. It can start again but the engine shut down again when the car stop or in slow traffic. It seems that the idle rpm of the engine drop below 600rpm and could not raise up automatically. I changed the spark plug, engine oil, air filter, engine oil filter and fuel filter already but it did not help at all. Is there something relay to the intake air flow senor or other electric senors? Please let me know which part I need to check / inspect in order to solve this problem. Thank you very much for your comment in advance. Patrick  Quote
Guest Wayne Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 I have had a similar problem with my automatic - see a couple of postings prior to yours "V6 cutting out" the reply I got may be applicable to you as well. Haven'ttried it out yet, but it could be the answer! Quote
Guest Patrick Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Dear Wayne I drove my car to the dealer and they found that one of the part named "valve air by-pass" was malfunction. It took one week for the part arrived and after replaced the problem seems solved. Hope it can help. Patrick Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Patrick - glad you got your problem sorted out.Are there many Galaxies in Hong Kong, or did you have yours specially imported there?RegardsIvor Quote
Guest Patrick Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 Dear Ivor We have dealer in Hong Kong which import the following Ford models: Focus, Mondeo, Fiesta, Escape, Galaxy Of course, we do not have so many choices on the engines as diesel engine for private car is allowed in Hong Kong by the air pollution law. For Galaxy model, it is a common MPV in Hong Kong and you can see quite a lot on the road. Patrick Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 Thanks Patrick, interesting to know...and for Fredt, my mum comes from Malaysia and I've been fortunate to go there acouple oftimes in the past few years. Don't recall seeing any Galaxies there; most popular MPV seems to be the Toyota Unser which is not imported into Europe. There are an increasing number of Renault Scenics out there though. Quote
