Under acceleration, there is a gargle from the engine bay. The only way to describe it is as a pipe under-water blowing air, trying to sound like tappets!

Its not the tappets, I have had 2 sets and the sound is the same (they are hydraulic anyway). Its only on acceleration and gets louder the more gas I put on.

Sounds like air being released under water - any ideas?

Can you replicate it with the car stationary, bonnet up and rev the engine under no load?

Water pump? coolant being rushed round under high speed? pump cavitation? air in the heater matrix being pumped round while under load? check your coolant level?

The pump is new, coolent level is fine - new head gasket, level hasn't moved for months.

I cannot replicate the sound at a standstill - only happens during acceleration/load.

Sorry to be so non-descriptive, but i can't replicate it at the road side.

Its a definite gargle sound, there is no other way to describe it.

Sorry!

Hi

Just had a similar problem on the Wife's TDi 2000 Galaxy - noise only while accelerating / under load. No obvious leaks / not affecting performance at all but noisier when you put your foot down.

Anyone got any ideas?

thanks
