my gal has ford roofbars on it and they was used for a topbox and they are only about 2' apart...today i removed the lockable covers and undone the allen key bolts that hold the bars on so as i could space the bars further apart(to hold my fishing rod holdhall amongst other things)...i found this steel bracket in the gutter that the bars lock onto and i could not get the brackets to budge..are these brackets a permanent ford fixture ...dunno what to do next...shud i be able to move the brackets so as i can adjust the spacing on the bars? and if so how?...

You should indeed be able to move them...

Have you tried loosening them off enough to pull them straight off?

They may be seized/stuck because they've been in the same position for years.

Because the distance between the roof rails varies front to back you usually have to adjust the brackets for this using another allen key bolt underneath.

Try completely removing the allen bolts if all else fails, the brackets should separate.
