I have read on another forum about using a mix of diesel, vegetable oil (Rapeseed) and some acetone in a diesel engine to get some good fuel economy gains, lower emissions and a quieter, freer revving engine. If the engine can run on biodeisel then this works.

I'll try and find out more

I have just got back after filling up the Gal at the garage. There are people down there stock piling fuel !! One guy had his boot open with no less than 10 fuel containers, the big army type ones. There was also a significant tail back forming down the road. Is there much truth in the rumour that fuel deliveries will be blocked on Wednesday ?? I am happy with my tank full, I won't be stock piling it !

There was a "somebody" on Radio 4 this morning saying that the blockades would start again on Wednesday morning. I heard over the week-end that the government has plans for ration vouchers should this happen - fat load of good that will be when there are no supplies.......

Ive just got back from tesco, in big letters

NO DIESEL :o

and there was a Que a mile long round the car park, for petrol!

i thought, 'oh no, not anther shortage?'

ive only got 'just under half a tank'

then i thought, nah, ill get another 400 miles out of that :)

Well I don't normally swear but all the idiots panic buying are a right bunch of f'ing tossers.

Its 1 or 3 days at most at varying depots, as a token protest

There will be no problems with supply

every garage i see, there's a Que of cars, all buying fuel, talking to my neighbour (the one who filled his X5 TD with petrol) and hes taken both his cars, and filled them to the brink (other car is a 3.0i Z4, very nice motor) the funny thing was, while talking about the cost of fuel, and the possible shortage, he left his X5 running for about 15mins, a 3litre diesel, just left ticking over?

Sorry but I do not agree, if you need to make sure you have enough fuel to make sure you get tot work and back until the end of the week then I would go and get some now.

Once the ball starts rolling there will be none left by the end of the week.

I had a bit of good news yesterday whilst sitting in the queue for fuel it actually went down 2p a litre, woohoo.

The last protest lasted 7 days, and this time there are fewer reserves to go round because production is down. And even more so, there is more to shout about this time as the price is so much higher than last. If anything, the people that know about this subject are predicting a worse event than before. History repeats itself. I for one have a full tank, and anyone with any sense will also have one. The queues are there now for godness sake - let alone a few days time.

There is no statement to be made by shrugging the whole thing off.

Enjoy catching the bus.

Kinda makes you want to stay at home don't it?

Still - nothing ventured nothing gained !!!

just got back from a Morrison's at market drayton, not much of a Que, got a full tank now, managed to get 45litres in, and my gauge was only just below the half way mark, so there's enough to last me a few weeks.

just wish diesel was cheaper than petrol. has anyone bothered to work out how much each mile costs in terms of money? for both the diesel and petrol models?

The point is, there will be no blockade like last time its a simple protest. Even the guys organising it say don't panic it won't be bad.

Its like common sense is in even more short supply than fuel

I am alright though <smugly> I have essential user status via my job and a pass for the local BP garage. But I am informed it will not come to that.

I have to disagree with the last comment

There *SHOULDNT* be a problem with no deliveries for a couple of days but due to the mentality of the great unwashed and the was the press play on things, I believe there will be a repeat of what happened a few years ago, it could even be worse.

I have noticed that over the last few years an awful lot of normal filling stations have closed down leaving three supermarkets as the main suppliers of fuel in our area. The loss of filling station means fewer tanks in the ground holding reserves of fuel. Once you factor in people filling there tanks when they would normally only have 25-50% of the tank filled and there is then a blip in the apparent consumption of fuel.

Once a few pumps/filling stations run out, even the more sensible motorists will decide they had better fill up and it will escalate

In Great Yarmouth, we have problems with filling stations running out over bank holiday weekends due to the number of cars filling up for the homeward journey.

I had to fill up daily during the last shortage as in normal useage I was using a tank of diesel every 4 days. The garages were limiting people to

There are apparently around 25% fewer filing stations than when the last protests took place. Even then, once supplies had resumed it took 2 weeks or more for all stations to be back to their normal delivery routine. Having been caught out then (just got back from holiday having left both cars with almost no fuel), I do not intend to have to drive with crossed fingers this time - have filled the wife's car up to the top on Friday (well, it was 2 months since I last had to put fuel in it for her). The Gal is about 3/4 full at present but I intend to go to Silverstone on Wednesday to the F1 test, so will fill up when I get close to home in the evening, assuming I can find some diesel (no queues locally yet .......)

I've done a google on biodiesel, and it seems that loads of drivers are running on veg oil! Free waste oil from the local chippy, or just cheap stuff from the supermarket

I am suprised it has not been discussed here previously.

I am going to give it a go in my truck. If you smell 'chip shops' that'll be me in front or just gone past. lol

Dont forget you have filter it, have a warming system installed or it just solidifies and then you have to declare it and pay tax on it! mmm not so good  or as has been suggested just pour a bottle of vegetable oil in the tank when you fill up  does the same thing and it's available from wholesalers in bulk containers! eat a lot of fried food in your house?

Or you could always install LPG  but dont tell Jb80

Diesel LPG Conversions

Diesel engines can be converted to run partly on LPG, partly on diesel. This method uses the combustion of the diesel to ignite the LPG. The benefits include large increases in power and reduction in emissions, particularly the black smoke often associated with diesels.

Typically a ratio of 30% LPG to 70% diesel is possible. No adjustments are required to the diesel injection system and fuel savings come from the fact that throttle openings are lower due to the greatly increased power, which basically means you do not have to press the accelerator as hard to get the same performance.

Fuel savings upwards of 30% are possible with the increased power levels seen as a major benefit to users

Bit ironic - Wednesday, the day the protests are planned for - and the day Ivor goes and sees F1 cars ripping up the track burning more fuel than ever!

Got a spare ticket?

thanks Andrew T :D

I went past my local garage, (privately owned) there's a Que a mile long, and diesel is priced at
