Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 11, 2003 Report Posted July 11, 2003 Sorry. I'm south of London and don't know too many good used car places in Scotland. Perhaps we could set up a thread for Site Members to sell/buy Galaxys to each other? What do others (and Kevin/GTEUK) think? Quote
Guest Dave Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 What are you looking for? age etc? I am trading my Gal in 4 Quote

Danny Boy Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 I brought my Galaxy from www.audenshaws.co.uk. If ever your flying past Birmingham at anytime its just off J2 M5 Have you looked on EBay?? Quote
suzuki91 Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 before you travel to buy consider the distance to take it back when something needs repairing. with the age of car you will get for that money there will be something needs doing. if its a small niggle you wil be doing it yourself, but bigger jobs need to return the car. getting it there and home etc....i put my motorcycle in the car to return for fixing, worked for me. Dally Posted October 13, 2003 Report Posted October 13, 2003 I'm interested in changing my 02 2.3 galaxy for a 2.8v6 52 or 03 model.I'm worried about fuel and other running costs and was just wondering whether anyone out there might want to share their experiences. Also does anyone know of any good deals going? cheers Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 Dagenham Motors Group were running adverts in the local paper last week offering special deals; they have several branches across the south-east but don't know where you are. You could also try Ford Direct if you are looking to get an almost new one (www.forddirect.co.uk or similar). Quote
Dave-G Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 Dally; It sounds like you have shed fulls of spare money to spend on petrol and the chancellor...giss some! you'll get nearly 3 times further for the same spend in diesel! However..If your a very low mileage user you will save a load of cash on a petrol model 'cos few can afford the running costs when it comes out of their own pocket rather than the compay directors expense account - and tax write off. So is it gonna sit on your drive to impress the neighbors - or do any mileage? :D Quote
Dally Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 I don't have that much money but I've been looking at some deals for 52 and 03 reg models - they're coming in at around Quote
Dally Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 PS Dave-G.. I don't have an expense account - every penny will come from my pocket!!!I am worried about the costs and that's why I'm asking for peoples experiences - any V6 ers out there??? Quote
Dave-G Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 If you're only gonna do 10k p.a. I think your on the right track mate.I got mine from fowlers garages at newcastle-under-lyme,Staff's. Since I bought it they've gone on-line, but I dont have their site details. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 If you're worried about costs, go for the diesel, especially if most of your miles are at low speed in town with engine not really getting warm. I'm a low annual miles user, paying all motoring costs from my own pocket, and I chose diesel because:1) more relaxing and fits my driving style; less gear-changing around town where greater torque of diesel engine comes into its own2) lower annual fuel bill3) low mileage in petrol car rots the exhaust and catalyst, especially on short journeys4) diesel is less polluting (although depending on which stories you read about particulates this may or may not be true)5) diesel should have better re-sale value, even though I plan to keep the car for several years (maybe 10) Don't forget that the V6 is MUCH more expensive to insure, something like 4 groups higher that 2.3 or diesels with most insurance companies. If you really want performance and/or like to rev the engine loads, then diesel will not suit you. Each to his/her own!Ivor. Guest Gav1968 Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 There is a place called Wortham Specialist Vehicles (look it up on the web) that sells of ex army vehicles. They have 2 99 TDi gals at the moment (look under the cars section). High mileage, but they might suit someone. One owner, 200 drivers though. And they sell tanks too. Quote
Dally Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 Thanks for your help so far guys. Today I managed to get to a local ford dealer and had a go in both a v6 auto and a tdi auto (115ps). The tdi was a definite surprise - much quieter and nippier than I thought. I did, however find that there were times around the auto gear change (on inclines) that it seemed to struggle a little. Also the driving pleasure was marred by poor tracking (or something more sinister - there was a big chip in the nsf alloy) and the constant veering to the left. It was expensive Quote
HJT Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 You could also consider getting the V6 converted to LPG which will save you masses on fuel costs. I think there are several members who have had this done so you might want to try and get their opinion on this. Howard Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 I'd avoid buying any used car that pulled to the left and/or had an alloy with a chunk out of it! Sounds like you've already made your mind up, so if you can afford to run it (NB insurance costs) then go for it, and live a little bit! Quote
Dally Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 The deal is dione guys! It's the V6. Thought I'd take Ivor's advice and 'live a little'. Hopefully take delivery on Thursday all being well. Thanks for your advice and comments guys. Just hope it's not to painful on the wallet!! Cheers Quote
HJT Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Let us know how you get on with it. Howard Quote
Guest ANDY FITZGERALD Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004  YOUR A BRAVE MAN TO TAKE ON RUNNING COSTS OF A V6, BUT GOOD LUCK IT WILL COST YOU A LOT MORE MONEY TO COVER A GIVEN MILEAGE. IF PETROL WAS 30 PENCE A GALLON... THE WAY I SEE IT IF YOU WANT A RACING CAR OR BIG CAR PERFORMANCE YOU DONT BUY AN MPV. Quote
Dally Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 Andy It is expensive on fuel - there's no doubt about that and I'm sure that it'll be expensive to maintain long term too. So far it's been back for several niggly things like trim, wind noise from drivers side and one big problem - it had to have a new autobox (not bad for a 7 month old car eh?) which the garafe told me will cost ford around 3 grand. But on the positive side, the drive is great, very little loss of power will a full complement of seven adult passengers and it's a good all round spec. I have no regrets and whilst sports car and mpv might not share the same side of a coin, I don't think they have to be mutually exclusive either. I think the balance is well founded (but would be even better with improved mpg - I'm getting about 230 miles on 50 quid!) It's having a positive influence on me in that I've slowed down to try and retain some level of sane mpg - that can't be a bad thing! Quote
