timwood2000 Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 Are cordless headphones compatible with the factory fit DVD player - if so, is it simply a question of putting the transmitter into the headphone sockets. Presumably, charging the headsets needs to be done indoors. Any ideas how long a charge usually lasts for? And, if the answer is yes, any recommendations for a make of cordless headphones? Cheers Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 No idea what is compatable with the factory dvd set up? but take a look in the Argos book :D they have a few sets in there, this was suggested to me by the local stockist of my dvd set up when I contacted him for a replacement set! he openly admitted that I could buy the same Phillips head phones from Argos cheaper than he can buy them for :o and they come with a charger and IR transmitter! if your OE set up can run two different outputs to the screens? then you will need switchable headphones or they will both pick up the same signal! which could be confuseing :D you could also try a few of the online ICE shops, they will be more knowledgable on the topic and will be able to suggest the correct equipment you need Quote
Guest thobbs Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 If you know *roughly* what you want, I would pop down to your local Currys or something like that - Any set(s) would do fine. Personally the wife wanted to have the wired option on the headphones and then informed me that she would like to have the stereo to play the sound out of the speakers in the car (like the previous car had!), so I am currently in the middle of fitting an FM modulator which I got from the maplin site link: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=44128 Sorry to hijack your thread - But has anyone else done this? Guest MATT Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 I haven't, but there are members that have (whether they still use the forum i don't know). i have studied the installation of FM modulator, and the wiring Seems 'simple/easy' but some people have reported interference problems, and so the sound was no good. Steven.Langdale Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Guys Just installed and fm modulator myself. I think the word "installed" is a bit of overkill though, as this one is wireless. I bought one from ebay, do a search for "fm modulator mp3". The same guy is selling loads. As you will see, it plays mp3's (128k highest frequency) and has a line in for your DVD etc. I'm really impressed, it looks pretty good, and sounds great. I didn't want to go for one that is installed into the arial feed as apparently they can block the current TO the arial which powers a small amp. It was Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Sorry to hijack your thread - But has anyone else done this? My head unit has the capacity to accept a second audio input :D so the need for an FM modulator does'nt occur :D plus it means that I can use the dvd player as a second cd player when the kids get bored of watching dvd's :o Quote
Ian in Northampton Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Not wishing to piss on anyone's chips, but I'm not sure that wearing headphones while driving is very safe. I think we underestimate the extent to which we rely on what we hear as well as what we see in order to avoid problems. Just a thought. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 The idea here Ian is to save the driver from the noise of the dvd blareing away in the background! on my set up I can have the sound of the film from either the screens in built speakers, through the car stereo's speakers or through the IR headphones, my preference is through the IR headphones  that way I hear myself think and listen to what I want on the radio or cd :D Quote
