Guest JonathanK Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 We've just had a 115PD Alhambra back from the dealer after a 40k service. Apparently, the cambelt change is now 40k instead of 60k on the 110TDi which we also have. Fair enough, if that's what the manufacturer says, the car is serviced in accordance with their recommendation. The all in cost for a 40k service with cambelt change? An eyewatering Quote

Guest reefer Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 Time for a cambelt change on Galaxy, Alhambra etc is 5 hrs, so 5hrs times dealer labour rate is expensive.(second mortgage is needed)They have to remove the engine mounting under the air filter and dismantle the auxiliary drive belt and pulleys plus remove the crankshaft pulley. before they can remove the cambelt covers. a time consuming job. and expensive specially at dealer prices !.My independant garage charged me Quote
gazza007 Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Was that the price for the 115 PDI or the 110 TDI.I'm due a service in 2K on my Alhambra 115 PDI when it gets to 42,500.According to the book it is an Inspection service with additional items.I will be supplying my own oil 'Millers XFE PD' so hopefully that should save a few pounds. To be honest it will be 3 years old in September so will probably use independants after that.Does anybody has a rough idea what I should be paying for the 40K service. Guest JonathanK Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 Just had a comparison quote for a cambelt change from Nationwide Autocentres at Quote
gazza007 Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 Queried price at my regular dealer and they told me that I only require a intermediate 10K service as the car had the normal 40K service done at 32.5K when I bought it. Good job I didn't go elsewhere. Quote
Guest lynchy Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 Just had my Cambelt changed (2001 115tdi) at Ford dealer 40K service was Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 That looks a pretty good price - do you know if it was reduced as they were doing the service anyway, or is it the same price irrespective of whether or not they are doing any other work on the car? What I'd like to see is the cars designed like the BTCC touring cars - complete front part of car including bumper, grille, lights etc comes off as one assembly giving instant access to all major items, then engine/gearbox also separates from bodywork in just a few minutes after undoing a handfull of bolts.
