Guest NIGEL15 Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 Hope someone can offer some advise on this one. I have just swopped the origional radio/ cas in my 1998 Sharan S for a sony cd radio (no auto changer) that came from my previous car. Problem is that when i take the keys out of the ignition all power is cut and the radio loses its preset memory for the stations every time. The change of unit was straight forward, identical block connectors etc.. Any suggestions ? Quote
Guest MATT Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 i had the exact same thing happen to me in my old T reg galaxy, the 'professionals' that fitted it did not do it correctly. so i removed the JVC CD/RADIO and looked at the instructions, and there were THREE (OR two?) Power supplies (ve+) to the radio, one was ONLY live when the ignition was on, the other ONLY live when ignition was OFF, and i think there was a live one all the time. (i cant remember exactly). BUT, if you get a 'tester' and earth to the car body, and test out the power supply leads, testing which ones are on/off with ignition, you should be able to fix your problem. MATT Quote

Masked Marauder Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 Yes, as Steve has said above. For reference purposes the radio connectors in VAG produced cars have the "Positive Permanent Live" connection and the "Positive Live with Ignition" connection the opposite way to the DIN standard, so you will need converter leads or to swap the leads as above.
