Guest leggy Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Help! I have a 1998R 2.3Ghia auto Galaxy that has knocking that seems to be coming from the front suspension when going over small bumps and potholes at about 20mph. This only happens when the car is warmed up (i.e. after about 1 hour of town driving or 30 mins on fast driving). Its not particularly noticeable when driving fast, although I'm so sensitive to it now I can feel it through the steering even when I can't hear it. I have replaced the anti-roll bar drop-links and also the anti-roll bar bushes. This, if anything seems to have accentuated the problem. I'm pretty sure it's not the exhaust or the undertray. What else could be affected by heat? The problem arises more quickly on warm sunny days but on cold days it may not happen at all. I had a mechanic look over it for an hour while it was raised on a hydraulic lift, but he couldn't find anything wrong with any of the joints or bushes (although the car was lifted from under the jacking points so the wheels drop and everything is under tension). Any ideas please? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Well as you have changed the links then it points to the suspension top-mounts. Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Maybe a loose ball joint on the lower suspension arms Quote
Guest leggy Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Well as you have changed the links then it points to the suspension top-mounts. Are the top mounts easy to check? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Jack the car up and check for movement at the top of the strut, a little is fine, thats how they are designed, but anything more than about 6mm side to side or front to rear is bad. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...9&hl=top+mounts Quote
