jvernon Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Anyone experienced ABS warning light problems? Quick! Before i have 2 take it 2 a dealer. Quote
ridway Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Usually a wheel sensor problem. A good check is to make sure that each one has the same impedence. I don't know what it is for the Gal but Peugeot are usually around 1Kohm. The important thing is that there all more or less the same value. Trace the cable back from each wheel until you reach a suitable connector where you can check it. Use a multimeter to check all the values are the same, the odd one out is the little blighter causing the problem. Bear in mind it could be a bad connection. Hope this helpsRich Quote
jvernon Posted July 10, 2003 Author Report Posted July 10, 2003 Thanks for the help. Will check it at weekend. Quote
Guest ianstep Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Hi All The ABS light came on my Gal yesterday. Can it still be driven with the light on? Ian Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Yes, but with caution. Remember that you may not get brakes at full efficiency when you try to apply them. Also - if stopped by plod, he/she could book you for having a defective braking system (even though there may be nothing wrong - but the hassle of getting proof and going to court etc means that it's safest to get this looked at ASAP - your life may depend on it).I remember seeing an article some years ago where a traffic light camera had photographed a red-light jumper in a Granada hatchback who had not only jumped the lights but collided with a vehicle turning right, across his path, as a result.Granadas all had anti-lock brakes and his wheels were locked up, as evidenced by trails of "smoke" from the tyres in the photo. The police used the photo to prosecute him for having defective braking system in addition to red light jumping, speeding etc etc. Quote
Guest ianstep Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Hi I have just had a quick check and not having a clue what I am looking for on the sensors and removing and replacing the fuse (28). I found the front sensors and removed and replaced them easy, looking at the back I was unable to find the same connections. I have booked it into the garage tommorrow so we will have to wait and see the outcome. I bet my warranty doesn't cover it cyaIan Quote

Justice Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 I was replying to your footnote at the bootom of your thread ;) Quote "I was told that if the light stays on after you start the engine then the fault is NOT a sensor " The light stay on and it is a sensor was only the point I was tying to say.The ABS dos'nt care if it's the front or back. Steve S. Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 Dear All, I've recently been through a version of this. (See "abs and fault codes" post) Although the code reader showed a speed sensor fault, it turned out to be a double break in the rhs sensor wire between the connector and the grommet just before it enters through the floor pan(about 15" inward of the the lhs back door gap..non hinge) On extracting the wires, the rhs actually fell in half, being very brittle.I suspect that its condition was the result of running behind, and very close to the exhaust heatshield, as elsewhere the wires are quite flexible. Anyway it's worth bearing in mind, it might be a common fault occuring in older models where the wires have got baked or otherwise degraded. Cheers, Steve S. Quote
