Hi there,

Just brought a PS2 for my son (I won't be playing it, of course ;) ), and want to get a mains-12v adaptor so he can use it in the car, on the screen of the Visteon. Searching the net, I've only come across a dirty great box which is meant for the PS2 and a separate screen - I just want a plain and simple adaptor, no frills!

Anyone point me in the right direction?

Cheers,

i am assumming that you are looking for an inverter, if its the latest ps2 i think they are already 8.5 volts and would just need a lead / adapter from the cigar lighter there are lots of them about which are selectable for voltage output and ends, try maplins or halfrauds

Are you thinking more of a generic inverter like these from Maplins:

Maplins

The one on special offer for 20ukp looks good. I have small 150Watt inverter and its quite happily run laptops etc.

If you buy a generic converter such as the one from Tesco's or Mapin's then you have a standard mains three pin socket, so you just use the PS2 mains lead. I think the gaming one must plug directly into the back of the playstation (I'm making an educated guess here) and slimline ones must have different mains leads connector to the older PS2's. ;)

I will try my 150Watt Inverter with the PS2 this afternoon if I get chance, to see it it really does drive it OK.

the later ps2 has been made slim line by removing the transformer from the unit itself and also a fan to keep it cool, so now you plug the transformer into a plug socket in the wall then plug the lead into the new ps2 ,there for if you put it in a car you only need 8.5 volts to run it

Aha I see.

I've just tried my (old fat) PS2 with the inverter and it works but the powr supply inside buzzes :( Hmm, its probably not too happy with the inverters output, but it does seem to run ok...
