Petrol Can I Do This?

Hi i think i have deffinately found the petrol problem in my mondeo but my question is....... The gauge reads empty but when the ignition is off it reads a quarter of a tank i have found the electrical supply to the gauge and want to cut it and just get a float reading like the old days (will this work?) if so then i will do it if not then its either fit a trip or pay

I think a trip comp uses that lead anyway. I might be wrong, I have a Mk 1.

 

You can get a new petrol level sensor on ebay for not too much. If the dash gauge works (ie it moves) then its perhaps not faulty.

 

I would go to a scrappy and rip out the both the items you may need.

 

Maybe its a bad earth - an electrical fault at the sensor, which means that nothing is duff, its just confused.
