Guest Rockwell_B1b Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 Ford Galaxy 2.3 Ghia petrol auto, W reg. Ive had this problem for quite a while now, when the engine is running there is a distinct squeaking noise, it gets faster and louder as i accelerate and seems to be worse when its damp. I have been to few local garages and no one seems to be able to know what it is. Ive taken it to a few places who have said "not quite sure what the problem is could be your air conditioning (?) could be your fan belt"I recently got the belt changed and this initially did the trick but its came back again. Anyone got any solutions, anything would be gratefully apreciated. Many Thanks Steve Quote
chromedome Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 I agree, aux belt tensioner. Had the same symptoms on mine even with new belt. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 No dissent from me on this one. Whip off the belt and check the pully bearing by spinning and check for side to side movement. Quote
Dave Smith Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 Aux Tensioner, try a quick blast of WD40 as see if it stops for a few seconds. So how do you change the tensioner? From the top or underneath? Anyone got any instructions? Thanks :D Quote
sad_git Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 Had same trouble with mine. I managed to swap the bearing in the pulley for about a tenner but it didnt cure it.Turned out the belt was rubbing on the inside of the crank pulley flange. Wear in the tensioner pivot itself was causing the pulley to run at an angle making the belt ride outwards. It is difficult to see this wear in situ, but if you find the belt is wearing on the outer edge this is most likely the problem, only remedy, new tensioner assembly at around Quote
